Project questions

Projects FAQs

Why are your projects not named?

Because we do not publish a client’s address or a building’s mechanical detail without their agreement, and on high-end residential work that agreement is rarely given. Where we have it, the job appears in full in our case studies. Everything else is described by the problem it solved.

Do you handle both residential and commercial projects?

Both, from the same company and the same shop. A multi-zone house and a rooftop changeout need different rigging, but the engineering discipline behind them is identical. See commercial HVAC.

How long does a whole-home system replacement take?

A straightforward changeout is a day. Add duct modifications, a new return, a heat pump conversion or a multi-zone ductless layout and it becomes several days, sometimes spread around an inspection. The survey tells you which one you are looking at before anything is ordered.

Do you fabricate your own ductwork?

Yes, in the Carlstadt shop. Fittings and transitions are made to the drawing rather than assembled from whatever the supply house stocks, which is what lets an awkward basement or a tight ceiling get a duct system that performs. See sheet metal fabrication.

Can you work on an occupied building?

Most of our commercial work is on occupied buildings. That drives the sequencing more than anything else: temporary cooling where it is needed, riser work out of hours, crane picks on a weekend, and a phasing plan agreed with the property manager before the first delivery arrives.

Do project incentives apply to this kind of work?

Often, particularly on heat pump and electrification projects. Eligibility usually turns on equipment specification and documentation rather than the size of the job, so we check it at design stage โ€” retrofitting the paperwork rarely works. See rebates and incentives.
