Belleville is old housing. Rows of 1920s two- and three-family homes above the river, cast-iron radiators fed by one-pipe steam, chimneys that were built for coal and later fed a boiler, and basements where the near-boiler piping was redone once in 1978 and never since. My house has radiators and no ducts. Can I get central air?

Usually yes, and usually not by cutting ducts into a 1925 two-family. Ductless mini-splits or a high-velocity small-duct system will cool a house like this without gutting the plaster, and the radiators keep doing the heating until you decide to change that too.
